Common Questions

Why should I volunteer?

Vinnies volunteers are at the core of Vinnies WA who donate their time and energy to making a difference to people’s lives every day. As a Vinnies volunteer you can gain valuable experience in a supportive and caring environment as well as putting your own skills and knowledge to good use. For many Vinnies volunteers, it is also a chance to feel part of a valued team and our organisation, as well as a way to give back to your local community. It’s also lots of fun, because as a Vinnies volunteer you have the chance to socialise, meet new people and make friends.

How much time commitment is required to be a volunteer?

With such a wide range of services and programs to be involved in, there is something to suit all commitment levels from; weekly, monthly, quarterly, or ad-hoc volunteering. The Society recognises that the level of involvement volunteers can commit to will vary depending on their personal circumstances such as; study, work, and family commitments. Members and volunteers are also supported to adjust their commitment as their personal circumstances change.

What support is provided to volunteers?

To ensure the safety and support of our volunteers Vinnies provides training in; Society programs, Workplace Health and Safety, Child protection, as well as social and formation opportunities such as; retreats, festival days, and more!

Who do Vinnies volunteers help?

The Society’s members and volunteers help anyone in need, regardless of their background, culture, religion or political opinion. One of the principle tenets of the Society is to meet people where they are; be it in their home, in hospital, in detention, or on the street.

From what age can I start volunteering?

We welcome people and groups of all ages but require our younger volunteers to be a minimum age of 15. This is so we can ensure there is the appropriate level of supervision and safety in the activities and locations they work.

Vinnies Volunteers at Canning Vale Distribution Centre

It’s been a busy time at Canning Vale recently, with a number of corporate groups visiting and helping out volunteering in the Distribution Centre. Volunteers have been building beds, sorting donated items and packing Emergency Assistance Packs. This has been invaluable for Vinnies, helping us to get through the volume of goods that are donated so they are ready for distribution to people in need or to be sold in any of our 54 shops around the State.
