Vinnies WA calls on community’s help amid cost-of-living crisis

Vinnies WA is calling on the community to help vulnerable people bearing the brunt of cost-of-living pressures by making a donation to the annual Vinnies Christmas Appeal.

Rising interest rates and rents as well as a lack of affordable housing are placing unprecedented pressure on WA families.

With inflation now at record levels and rising interest rates causing pain across the community, many vulnerable families are quickly sliding into poverty and disadvantage.

Vinnies financial counsellors are reporting that WA families are being forced to decide whether they can keep a roof over their head, put fuel in the car, attend medical appointments or buy food.

“West Australians are renowned for giving back to the community, and there has never been a more critical time than now to support those in need,” said Susan Rooney, CEO of Vinnies WA

“That’s why this year, we are once again asking the community to support the annual Vinnies Christmas Appeal.

“In a state as wealthy as Western Australia, it is simply unacceptable that children have to grow up without access to the most basic necessities like food, clothing and a safe, stable home,” Ms Rooney said.

Only with the support of the WA community can Vinnies help families across Western Australia to wake on Christmas morning with the renewed sense of hope and dignity that everyone deserves.
